Neighbourhood Planning So Far: Our Vision

What have we done so far?

An Advisory Committee of the Parish Council has been established involving residents and Parish Councillors and supported by Neighbourhood Planning Consultants ‘YourLocale’. The Nether Langwith Neighbourhood Planning Advisory Group is chaired by Councillor Janet Smith. Its has agreed its Terms of Reference with the Parish Council.

Funding has been received to meet the cost of the delivery our Neighbourhood Plan. The costs of preparing the Neighbourhood Plan will be met by grant funding via Locality.

There are many stages in the preparation of a neighbourhood plan and it is envisaged that a draft plan will take at least 12 months.

The first stage, becoming a ‘Qualifying Body’ has been secured after Bassetlaw District Council formally designated the Parish for this purpose, along with confirming the ‘Neighbourhood Area’. The submission document prepared by Bassetlaw was approved at the September 2020 meeting of Bassetlaw Council: The designated area is the Parish Boundary and is shown here.

A delivery programme has been set to deliver policies that are right for Nether Langwith with community input.

Vision

A vision statement has been prepared by the Advisory Group.

  • Protect what we’ve got and make it better.
Our aim is to conserve and enhance the inherent character, heritage and history of our parish.
  • Improve the visual appeal and accessibility of our environment.
We will maximise the attractiveness of our natural assets; the river, rural character, flora and fauna, pathways and landscape.
  • Champion the sentiment that it’s a great place to live.
Whilst maintaining the integrity of the conservation area, we will encourage development that will create a greater sense of community and cohesion with outlying streets and farms.
  • We aren’t against all new housing development.
Smaller, incremental housing schemes, designed to be sympathetic to the visual amenity of our village, will be considered.
  • The village inherently lacks resilience to some forms of development. The safety of residents and buildings must be prioritised in decision making.
Development within the existing village boundary should be located on sites which make a positive contribution to the village, but minimise negative impacts such as traffic, parking and flood risk.
  • Renovation of brown field sites and existing property to protect open spaces.
Development beyond the existing village boundary must utilise existing infrastructure and protect the appeal of the rural landscape to the full extent of the Parish boundaries.
