Remembrance memorials

Lest we forget, but who are we remembering? We close our eyes and bow our heads, and remember.

For some people, time has separated them from the real poignant memories that many of us remember. The aim of this project is to try and bring those who served back into memory for just a snapshot. A chance for family members to sit down and talk about their relatives that have passed that made a difference in any of the conflicts.
They don’t have to have come from Langwith, just to be the person that is in your memory on the days we gather to remember. So who do you remember? Who comes to mind when you bow your head?
It could be someone who was in the armed forces, or a merchant seaman, a Bevin boy down the mines, a land girl, someone in the Home Guard, or in a reserved occupation.
Do you remember someone in a more recent conflict? Did you serve in a more recent conflict?
Is there a memory of an animal who served, long gone but living on in family legend?
The aim of this project is to give people real stories about those we remember. Be they in uniform, or served in their own way. Some of these stories will be displayed at the tourist information point, and if we have enough stories, on the village green.
There is an upcoming book about Langwith during the World Wars, it is hoped that some of these stories will be featured in this book, with the profits from the book going to Nether Langwith Village Hall Fund.
So please send us your memories, email them to ruthmcdonald@nether-langwith-pc.gov.uk – write them down and post them in at Nether Langwith Village Hall, or pop along to the October Coffee Morning.
